Classroom Activity Part 2
I want to teach second grade, so I would like to target this activity toward that age group. I also like Heather's idea of working with a school overseas. It would be a great way to learn about other countries' customs and learning styles. I've been thinking about my book report idea and I think maybe that would prove to be too difficult. Instead of a group book report, I was thinking I could do something similar to the PowerPoint project we had to do in our class, which would require the students to read a book and create a quiz using PowerPoint. I'm not sure how many different classrooms would be involved yet or how many different countries, but I'm thinking that groups of like 3 students could read the same book and then work together to create the quiz with PowerPoint. I would love everyone's opinion on this...should I stick to the book report idea or change it?

Doug and Rebecca-
Do you think I should do the PowerPoint project instead of the group book report? The concept and the goals would remain the same, just the type of project would change. I think that maybe having the students create a quiz using PowerPoint would be more of a critical thinking activity and somewhat easier than trying to write some kind of report. But, I'm not sure yet. I would love your opinion!
Meredith-
Thank you so much for your input on my classroom activity. It was really helpful. I think you are right, it would probably be better to make it an entire class project. I didn't really think about the fact that PowerPoint might be too difficult for that age group, especially when working with students internationally. The only reason why I thought the other way was better was because the students would be able to work with other students all around the world. I'm going to think about maybe changing my project (yet again) so that I could keep my original goal: having my students interact globally with peers through the use of technology. However, if I decide to stick with the PowerPoint idea, I will definitely adjust the curriculum so that it's an entire class project. Thanks again!
